Dream #1 — PART 6 What Happened After They Removed the Coffin
I wasn’t there when they actually removed the coffin, so this part is based on what my uncle Ryan and my dad told me years later.
After the old man came back and saw what Ryan had uncovered, he told him again not to open it.
He said the important thing was to get it out of the room without messing with whatever was inside.
Ryan asked what they were supposed to do with it.
The man told him to find a few strong guys and have them carry the whole thing out.
Then he helped Ryan choose another place to bury it.
Somewhere away from the house.
He also told him to bury it deep.
According to my uncle, they did exactly that.
They moved the coffin without opening it and buried it somewhere else.
The old man even told Ryan to plant trees around the spot and leave markings there so people in the future would know not to build anything on top of it.
That part always stuck with me.
Not because I know whether any of what the man believed was actually true.
But because of what happened afterward.
The room stopped having problems.
No more scratching at the window.
No more knocking on the door.
No old woman laughing outside in the middle of the night.
Nothing.
Ryan eventually finished fixing the place up and moved in.
And he didn’t stay there for a few weeks.
He lived in that room for more than ten years.
As far as my family knows, nothing strange ever happened there again.
By the time I was finishing high school, that whole neighborhood was eventually torn down.
The house disappeared with everything else.
So did the room.
For years, I figured that was the end of the story.
There was one more detail, though.
The older man who had come to look at the room—the one who told Ryan there was something buried underneath it—died a few years later after being hit by a car.
My uncle used to bring him up sometimes afterward.
He’d say things like,
“If Mr. Sullivan were still around, I’d ask him what he thought about this.”
Or,
“I wish you could’ve met him. That guy knew things.”
I still don’t know what I believe about any of it.
I was a kid when the coffin was found.
The dream happened before I was born.
And most of what happened in that room came to me later through my dad, my grandparents, and Ryan.
But there’s one part I’ve never been able to shake.
My grandpa dreamed about a woman with a fox-like face.
Years later, Ryan said he saw almost the exact same thing outside that room.
And beneath the floor, they really did find a sealed coffin.
After they removed it, the strange activity stopped.
Maybe there’s a perfectly normal explanation for all of it.
Maybe there isn’t.
But that room stayed empty for years for a reason.
And now I finally understand why.
