I was walking through a city I knew well, but every street sign had been removed. The stores were lit even though it was after midnight, and nobody was inside. Each window displayed something I had left unfinished: an unanswered email, an application missing my signature, a ringing phone I had chosen not to pick up.
Footsteps started behind me. At first they were far away. When I began to run, they stayed at exactly the same distance. I was too afraid to turn around, so I watched the shop windows. In every reflection, the person chasing me wore my clothes, but where the face should have been there was only a soft gray blur.
I tried to call for help, but my voice came out as quiet breathing. Every traffic light changed from red back to red. I ran into a subway station, where the arrival board displayed one message: ‘The next train will arrive after you stop moving.’ I kept running down the stairs, and with each level another set of footsteps joined the first.

What can it mean when something faceless chases you?
Being chased is one of the most common dream patterns. It can accompany anxiety, avoidance, pressure, conflict, or a feeling that something unresolved is demanding attention. The pursuer does not have one universal meaning, and it does not necessarily represent an external threat.
Ava’s city turns unfinished obligations into visible storefronts. The faceless figure wearing her clothes suggests that the pressure may come partly from within—from expectations, exhaustion, or a feeling she has not yet named. Its fixed distance captures how avoided concerns can remain psychologically close even when life keeps moving.
The subway message reverses the usual escape logic: progress becomes possible only after Ava stops running. The keys imply choices and boundaries, while the marked REST key suggests that slowing down feels dangerous, guilty, or emotionally costly rather than simple.
A personal interpretation would depend on what Ava is currently postponing and which key frightened her most. The dream may be asking less about how to defeat the pursuer and more about what becomes visible when she no longer treats every demand as a race.
